To plan, coordinate and direct comprehensive solid waste programs and services for Mariposa County and ensure County compliance with all related laws and regulations; to administer related grants and contracts; to plan and administer public education programs; to supervise and evaluate the work of landfill and transfer station gate attendants; and to perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in an office and field environment. Incumbent drives on surface streets, traverses uneven terrain on foot, and may be exposed to traffic hazards, machinery hazards, adverse weather conditions, temperature and noise extremes, wetness, humidity, heights, fumes, dusts, air contaminants, odors, solvents, grease/oil, toxic or caustic chemicals, skin irritants.
THE SELECTION PROCESS
All interested applicants must complete and submit a job application including any required supplemental questionnaires, and attach any required documentation. For those who meet the minimum qualifications, a competitive evaluation of the training and experience described on your application or supplemental questionnaire, a written examination, a structured oral interview, a performance rating, or a combination of any of these, may be performed. You will be scored based on that competitive evaluation. This process may be altered if there are ten or less applicants that qualified.
Three years of full-time equivalent administrative and California compliance enforcement experience in the fields of waste management, environmental health, engineering or biology. Experience in federal waste management regulation compliance is desirable.
Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in business administration, engineering, environmental studies or a related field. A copy of your college transcript must be attached (unless you are substituting additional qualifying experience).
Substitution: Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the college education on a year-for-year basis.
Additional Requirements: Possession of a valid California driver's license. Under certain circumstance, the Human Resources Director may accept a valid driver's license from another state if applicant acknowledges his/her intent to acquire a California driver's license within three months by signing an acknowledgement form.
About Mariposa County Public Works Department
The Mariposa County Solid Waste & Recycling falls under the Department of Public Works. The facility is a 56 acre unlined sight.There are approximately 15 employees. This facility is permitted for 100 tons per day with a complete invessel composting facility and a California certified drop off center. This division also supports many other recycling programs. There are also four Transfer Stations throughout the County.
