  1. Job Summary
    South Yuma County Landfill seeks an Assistant Manager to manage facility staff and routine landfill operations at our regional municipal solid waste landfill serving southeastern Arizona, southern California, and northern Mexico. 
  2. Job Responsibilities
    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned. 
  • Supervise landfill operations to maximize operational efficiency and ensure conformance with the facility’s solid waste facility plan.
  • Manage and supervise administrative and operations staff to create a positive workplace environment, ensure acceptable job performance, and ensure operations are being conducted consistent with company policies and procedures.
  • Implement company safety policies and procedures to maintain a safe workplace environment for all landfill staff and customers. 
  • Conduct weekly safety meetings with operations staff.
  • Maintain compliance with environmental regulations and facility permit requirements regarding waste handling, air quality, stormwater management, and related company policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates repairs, maintenance, and inspections of landfill equipment.
  • Oversee contractors for new cell construction.
  • Regularly communicate to corporate headquarters regarding facility needs.
  • Regular reporting to corporate headquarters on facility issues.

  1. Qualifications
    ) Education and certification:
  • High School Diploma or GED (accredited)
  • Certification as a Manager of Landfill Operations (MOLO) through the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) or equivalent is highly desired.  Must we willing to obtain certification within 12 months of employment and maintain certification during employment.

b.)  Experience:

  • 4 years of relevant work experience, including heavy equipment operations.
  • Supervisory experience is highly desired.
  • Landfill operations experience is highly desired.

c.)        Other:

  • Applicants must have the legal right to work in the United States.
  • Applicants may be subject to drug testing and background checks.

Must have or be able to obtain an Arizona driver’s license prior to employment
