Performs supervisory landfill maintenance and operation work. Work involves supervising the daily operations of the County landfill. Work requires considerable prior experience and is performed under technical supervision.
Essential Job Functions/Other Duties/KSA:
Plans and manages daily operations.
Operationally supervises staff engaged in landfill operations: assigns and reviews work, and takes actions to adjust work, staffing and operations to meet requirements; trains staff in new procedures. Provides input to actions regarding hiring, transfer, promotion, payroll, leaves, performance, and other personnel actions.
Communicates with and assists the public on a daily basis.
Investigates complaints and takes appropriate actions.
Supervises repairs and maintenance of equipment; orders parts if needed.
Works at landfill sites when needed.
Conducts tours and presentations to school groups.
Assists with various community and special projects.
Other Duties Assists with emergency services during snow and ice storms. Performs related work as required.

Landfill maintenance and operations procedures.
Tools, materials, equipment and safety precautions of the work.
Effective techniques of supervision.
Operationally supervise staff engaged in landfill maintenance and operation work.

Manage staff, daily operations, and policy development and implementation.
Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Required Qualifications (Note: Any acceptable combination of education, training and relevant experience that provides the above knowledge, skills, and abilities may be substituted on a full-time year for year basis.)
Training and/or Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Experience: Six years of progressively responsible landfill maintenance and operations experience that includes considerable experience managing staff, daily operations, customer service and policy development and implementation.
Licenses or Certificates: Valid commercial driver's license and a current Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with Federal Regulations.
Special Requirements: Operation of County owned vehicle. Subject to alcohol and drug testing.
Physical Demands: Requires ordinary physical effort to sit, walk, stand, bend, reach, or to carry light items.
Unusual Demands: Worker is exposed to dirt and soil, and hazards from use of equipment. Required to work evenings, weekends,and holidays. Subject to call in or to remain on the job for emergencies.
