Position Summary: Working in a team environment and under general direction, the Supervisor for the Recycling and Solid Waste team (RSW) is responsible for design, development, implementation and supervision of the comprehensive solid waste management program for the UI campus, including the UI Recycling Program, plus additional duties relating to energy conservation/recovery systems. Primary functions are coordinating campus systems internally and in conjunction with regional solid waste and recycling operations, supervising all staff, and overseeing the programs in relation to changing environmental and economic solid waste and recycling conditions, and researching problems related to recycling's and solid waste as needed to provide answers/solutions.
This is an essential position that will be called upon in the event of an emergency and/or University closure.

Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
The position requires candidate to be at least 18 years of age.
Experience totaling three (3) years of progressive knowledge and capabilities relating to Recycling and Solid Waste programs and operations.
One (1) year of supervisory experience and a good knowledge of current supervisory practices and procedures.
Must have forklift operation certification or be able to attain such within 3 months of hiring.
Good knowledge of procedures used in developing and managing a variety of programs.
Competently operate and use computers and various software programs to manage timecards; record-keeping requirements; word processing; emails; and data base entries.
Must be able to communicate effectively and actively promote team building efforts.
Ability to effectively manage budgets, track a variety of product inventories, and process and provide cost and billing information in a routine and efficient manner for a wide variety of departments.
Must be able to respond to emergencies and event support during off-hours.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelors degree or experience in environmental sciences, solid waste management recycling, or business management.
2-5 years of directly applicable experience in the field of waste management and operations relating to recycling and solid waste.
Good knowledge, experience, and certification/training concerning hazardous materials receiving, packaging, storing, inventory; and shipping .
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions: Physical ability to:
Bend, stoop, crawl, twist, lift, shovel, and lift, carry and/or otherwise move items weighing up to approximately 50 lbs in a routine basis throughout the workday.
Stand and walk continuously throughout the shift. Some positions may require climbing and working from ladders.
Work routinely on uneven and slick surfaces.
Must have dependable means of communication and transportation for event, on-call or emergency work.
Ability to push/pull loaded wheeled carts, containers or tow units by hand over hard surfaces in inclement weather, some of which can weigh up to 1000 pounds.
Required Licensures, Certifications or other
Must possess a valid motor vehicle operators license and be able to meet policy requirements for driving University vehicles.
