The Senior Hydrogeologist is a supervisory position directing and assigning work to Environmental Technicians and is responsible for managing the Authority’s regulatory water quality sampling program and provides technical expertise in hydrogeology, environmental monitoring, deep well injection, water use, remediation, and other hydrogeological areas relating to solid waste management facilities. Duties include coordinating and acting as liaison between Analytical Laboratories, various Authority departments, Regulatory Agencies, Consultants, and Contractors in order to expedite the timely data collection and completion of Authority water quality regulatory reports. Further responsibilities include regulatory review and analysis of analytical data, preparing permit applications, groundwater modeling, preparing reports, and technical writing. This position reports to Managing Hydrogeologist and requires reliability, dependability, and accountability in all aspects of the defined role. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. • Knowledge of Florida (local) geological concepts including sedimentology, stratigraphy, karst systems, aquifer testing, geochemistry, groundwater, surface water, and hydrogeological field techniques, including groundwater flow modeling techniques and evaluations. • Knowledge of the geologic, hydrologic and soil classification systems. • Knowledge of Florida specific well drilling technology and well construction; ability to operate and maintain field instruments. • Knowledge of the principles and standards of scientific study, field investigation and sampling, experimentation, research, and documentation and applies standards. • Ability to understand project objectives, plan and schedules and meet deadlines and budgets through basic project coordination. • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with co-workers, supervisors, and vendors. • Ability to work independently and as part of a team with employees and contractors. • Advanced problem-solving skills with ability to devise new approaches for solving complicated hydrogeological matters. • Advanced written and oral communications skills with technical writing experience to effectively communicate with regulatory agencies, peers, and technical groups. • Strong ability to use PC computer equipment, smart phone, tablets, databases, and proficient in Microsoft office (outlook, word, excel, PowerPoint); ability to use GIS tools is a plus. • Ability to coach, develop and supervise employees. • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors. • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. • Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis. • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. |
