The Executive Director is responsible for the oversite of a multi- county solid waste system that serves cities, towns, and rural areas. The Executive Director will need to work closely with the Board of Directors that has oversite of the system. The components of the system include a landfill, solid waste routes, trucking, a heavy equipment fleet, and grinding operations.
EDUCATION, TECHNICAL SKILLS, AND CERTIFICATION
Thorough understanding of management and financial practices.
Excellent managerial and financial skills and the ability to take leadership over any business operations area.
Supports SORD’s mission, philosophy, and commitment to the community.
Accountable for management of the organization to accomplish administrative, operational, environmental, safety and financial goals.
Manages and directs the organization toward its primary goals and objectives.
Oversees employment decisions at the manager level of the company.
Works with the Board of Directors and SORD staff to establish strategic direction, short-term objectives, as well as long-term planning and goals.
Oversees SORD’s financial structure, ensuring adequate funding for the mission and the goals of the organization.
Ensures that the Board of Directors are informed of the status of operations via regular updates and board meetings.
Ensures compliance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations, and standards.
Interacts with SORD consultants for varying organizational planning and project needs.
Serves as SORD’s representative to internal and external stakeholders, including but not limited to the board of directors, employees, local government officials, and the public.
Has the ability to drive change and overcome obstacles.
Create and support a culture of safety by performing all responsibilities in accordance with SORD safety policies and procedures and take a proactive approach to ensure a safe working environment for employees and the public.
MOLO Certification (Manager of Landfill Operations) from SWANA (Solid Waste Association of North America) preferred.
Superior supervisory skills and the ability to interpret and apply employment policies and collective agreements.
Strong understanding of policies and related legislation or initiatives and their significance and potential impact.
Strong organizational, analytical and critical thinking skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
Ability to work and make decisions independently.
Knowledge of surveying and mechanical skills with the ability to direct fill/excavation projects to grades specified on engineering blueprints.
Knowledge of water, air, and soil monitoring procedures and their related chemistry.
Knowledge of dispatching and scheduling trucking fleet.
Good knowledge of maintenance and the operation of heavy equipment.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Knowledge of marketing recyclable and landfill-diverted materials.
Knowledge of word-processing and spreadsheet applications.
Valid driver’s license.
The work environment described here is representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Southern Oklahoma Regional Disposal is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation that is governed by a group of municipalities in Southern Oklahoma. S.O.R.D. was established in September, 1993 and currently operates a landfill and trash collection services for the surrounding six counties.
