SUMMARY
Under the administrative direction of the Director of Public Services, this position is responsible for planning, organizing, directing the general operation of residential solid waste collection in the City of Mobile.
This individual will effectively and efficiently lead, manage, and direct the activities of supervisors and employees totaling 100 workers with a solid waste fleet of 75 vehicles with an annual waste disposal budget of $13.6 million to provide service to over 65,000 households.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
An employee in this role will: administer general policies and procedures and supervise the operation of the Sanitation division of the Public Services department; develop, administer and monitor the annual departmental budget and expenditures; prepare basic specifications for equipment and conduct proper field testing; coordinate activities with other City divisions; participate in emergency management planning and post-storm response; review and resolve service complaints from the public; implement changes and modifications in operating procedures as required to meet changing times and conditions; and train, develop, and evaluate staff to provide for succession as vacancies occur allowing for continuity of service.
QUALIFICATIONS
Completed a minimum of a bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university in engineering, business or public administration or closely related field and a minimum of five years’ experience in public works or sanitation operations, including supervisory experience; or a combination of education and experience equivalent to these requirements.
