Under the general guidance of the Senior Manager of Environmental Affairs, the Senior Environmental Specialist will be responsible for:
Oversee and manage environmental permitting activities for a large number of electric power generation and construction projects for AES United States.
Monitor and participate in developments and actions related to regulations, public policy and litigation that can affect AES. Provide detailed guidance to operations and upper management.
Development and implementation of procedures & policies to ensure compliance with existing and proposed environmental regulations.
Interface with regulators and other governmental agencies to resolve conflicts and respond to questions regarding AES operations.
Assist operations with permitting, reporting, training and environmental management. Prepare permit applications and review permits, including supporting documentation.
Initiate or review environmental studies and plans to ensure compliance.
Prepare application materials for, interpret, and implement a wide range of environmental permits, including Clean Air Act Construction permits, Title V, NPDES, and Solid Waste.
Lead/participate in environmental audits of power production facilities and service operations.
Developing or enhancing management and permitting programs and standards for prioritizing, assessing, and permitting projects, including both external and internal permitting support.
Interacting with local, state, and federal government agencies regarding environmental permitting projects.
Closely monitors developments and actions related to environmental regulations, public policy, and litigation that can affect AES, including participation in stakeholder involvement and development of comments in public record. Provides support and detailed guidance to internal stakeholders regarding current and pending environmental regulations, rules, and permits requirements.
Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, or related science-related field from an accredited college/university.
Minimum of seven (7) years in recent environmental permitting or oversight of permitting in the United States and preference for Indiana and Ohio.
Experience, knowledge, and familiarity with environmental permitting including CAA, PSD, NSR, RCRA, TSCA, CWA, Title V Permits. This includes experience, knowledge, and familiarity with underlying regulations and laws applicable to these types of permits.
Ability to work under pressure within strict deadlines and while managing multiple priorities. Strong communication skills and ability to interact with a diverse group. Self-driven, results-oriented with a clear focus on high-quality outcomes and business success. Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Project).
