								<description>Bakersfield, California,  This is an exceptional opportunity for a strategic leader in the waste management arena to direct a well-managed, innovative operation that is widely recognized for leadership in organics recycling. The City of Bakersfield&#8217;s Solid Waste Division includes the largest public sector compost facility in California, a tenant operated material recycling facility (MRF) at the compost facility, a refuse and recycling collection program that is a unique combination of 50% private and 50% municipal forces, service fees that rank among the least expensive in California, and a model anti-litter job training program partnership with the Bakersfield Homeless Center. 
 Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor&#39;s degree in Business, Management, Public Administration, Engineering, or related field AND 
 Five years progressively responsible experience in the management of solid waste operations or related managerial experience. 
 Additional post-graduate education in the above-mentioned areas may be substituted for the experience on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of two years. A Master&#8217;s degree will be considered equivalent to two years of the required experience. 
 Possession of a valid California Class &#8220;C&#8221; driver&#8217;s license. 
 
 Highly Desirable: Familiarity with California laws dealing with solid waste issue; National and state certifications in environmental health, engineering, or related fields and certifications offered by professional organizations, i.e., the Solid Waste Association of America (SWANA), California Environmental Health Association (CEHA), Department of Health Services (DHS), etc. DOE</description>
