Perform a variety of duties to ensure that an efficient and environmentally sound recycling program is maintained under the general direction of the Solid Waste Manager. Responsible for physical collection of solid waste, and storage of all recyclable materials (office paper, cardboard, newspaper, glass, aluminum etc.) on all campuses. Assist in the development and implementation of collection routes and recycling locations for all academic buildings and residence halls. Responsible for the maintenance and operation of associated recycling equipment such as cardboard balers and can crushers etc. Assist in establishing a preventative maintenance program for all equipment and submit recommendations for upgrading capital equipment. Responsible for the care and cleanliness of recycling vehicles and the warehouse storage facility. Maintain records and prepare daily complete work order reports. Supervise co-op and part-time student workers who are assisting the daily recycling operations. Follow established University rules and regulations. Interact with University students, staff and administrators in order to effectively educate and manage the collection of recyclable materials. Permanent member of the snow removal team duties to include being on call on a 24-hour basis during the winter months, shoveling snow and applying deicer, etc. Perform other related duties as required or as directed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Two or three years' experience in recycling industry required. Familiarity with federal, state and local government recycling guidelines. Must have the ability to follow directions and work independently. Possess strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate the University's recycling mission.
*Must be able to meet the physical demands of heavy lifting on a daily basis. With ability to lift up to a minimum of 50 lbs. *Must be able to work alone and climb multiple sets of stairs. *Must be available to work overtime during the week and on weekends when needed.
*Must have a valid Massachusetts driving license with proven history of operating trucks and forklifts.
*Must have a valid DOT Certificate. *Union Position *Position requires a criminal background check.
*40-hour work week - Sunday through Thursday, 6AM - 2:30PM Job description subject to change based upon the University needs and demands.
